Commentary:

Through mid-June (12 starts) Jared Wells was performing well enough to earn a promotion from AA Mobile to AAA Portland (4-3 with a 2.64 ERA). So should the Padres brain trust ship his 7.30 ERA back to Mobile now?

I think both Chase Headley and Will Venable need to be challenged with promotions.

I still don’t think that much of the 27 year old Smitherman (as of July 31:.254/.333/.530) but you got to love a 2-HR performance.
