Dodgers Jettison Baez in Trade for Betemit

Braves traded Wilson Betemit for Danys Baez and Willy Aybar. I've long debated the merrits of getting a Wilson Betemit (for Scott Linebrink)... I think Linebrink is better than Baez but I don't know if we had a comp. for Aybar...

Dodgers GM, Ned Colletti, was on the radio here in San Diego during the off-season talking about the Brian Giles negoations. He mentioned going after Giles had two benefits: one, it made us pay more to retain him, and two, if he got Giles, he got a good player. I think Colletti saw Baez the same way Padres hitters did - as a BP pitcher - and knew he had to get rid of him. Using Baez to acquire a versatile player such as Betemit while, blocking us from getting a player who could help us run away from the division, has to be feather in Colletti's cap.
