"Mikey's Famous!"

This story was written from my faulty memory as told by loyal reader, Paul R.

Paul was living in New York City. One night in June Paul was riding the train home from a Mets game back to his apartment. Now Paul is from San Diego and is a life-long Padres and Chargers fan. And he’s also every bit the draft-nerd as the writer of this blog. So one evening, on the train, Paul overheard three college-age guys talking about their friend Mike having been drafted by the Padres… Paul was sitting fairly close so he asked, “Mike Baxter?”

The three friends, in unison, looked at each other and yelled, “Mikey’s famous!”

The story doesn’t end there…

A couple years later, after a Cal League game, I was in the Storm clubhouse and met Mike Baxter and told him about my friend Paul. He had heard the story from his end and thought it was pretty cool to hear the other side of the story.

So, from now on, whenever Mike Baxter deserves mention as a “Hitter of the Day,” you’ll see “Mikey’s famous!” in the commentary…
