Off-Season Assignments
It has been noted that while there are a lot of top prospects in the Arizona Fall League this year, the Padres didn’t send many “top” guys (3B Chase Headley is the only guy I would call “top” prospect). We can speculate as to why (possibly disgruntled with the coaching staff assigned to the Padre affiliate, the Peoria Saguaros, etc.) but most of the top talent is headed to the Instructional League.
Cesar Carrillo, who missed most of 2006 and was reportedly going to see some rehab-type action this off-season, is conspicuously absent from both lists and according to this Miami Herald article, won't be pitching for a few more months after a recent setback.
Former [Univ. of Miami] standout Cesar Carrillo, who hasn't pitched since July 12 because of an elbow injury, is recuperating slower than expected and will be held out of the Arizona Fall League. Carrillo, sidelined with a stretched ligament after 53 1/3 minor-league innings, had his elbow flare up during a recent rehab session. The Padres said he won't need surgery, but he won't be able to start throwing again for a couple of months.
